Term 3 Wrap up
Term 3 is almost done and dusted! What a term it has been for Play in the Past.
Yet again I am blown away with gratitude to the educators that have invited us to their school for an incursion. It is no small thing to visit your little people and help them along their learning journey. I am so darn lucky!
In Term 2, I returned from parental leave, forging a new path as a mum of two. Only able to work one day a week, I had to find a new way to offer a Play in the Past experience to as many Perth schools as possible. What a learning curve. In Term 3, I perfected it.
I was able to visit multiple schools in one day, something I had not done before. Why, I don’t know, because it is utterly achievable and meant I didn’t have to let many people down. Winning.
In Term 3 I visited:
x16 schools
ran 36 sessions
x7 Alumni schools (this means they invited me BACK!)
visited x1 education support high school
attended x1 Grandparent’s Day Morning Tea
supported a fundraiser run by Mudbuddies (highly recommend checking out their sensory play sessions)
a 75th anniversary celebration for a school in Fremantle
spoke to countless educators, parents and carers who saw so much value in what Play in the Past offers
It was epic.
Every day I walked into a school I was reminded why Play in the Past is so special. We give students the opportunity to hold history in their hands. We give grown ups the experience of sharing their memories with their children in an organic and fun way. It is an intergenerational extravaganza. We also support teachers to deliver the curriculum in a purposeful way for their students. A way they could not recreate themselves without spending a lot of time and money that they just don’t have (or should have to do themselves!).
Term 3 reminded me that, there is no plan b. That Play in the Past is my future. And because it is mine, I get to make the rules about what it looks like. I get to support educators and students, AND I get to stretch out of my comfort zone and into the community.
Play in the Past will return to more schools in Term 4. More schools than ever before in T4, which is amazing. We will also be testing out a few scenarios: intergenerational experiences, homeschool sessions, sensory play sessions, teacher markets- a long list of possibilities I get to figure out.
In the mean time, teachers have a fab school holidays in preparation for Term 4. The last term of the year!
