Play in the past, in the future

It has officially been 3 years since I created Play in the Past.

And it is now time for reflection: what is the vision for Play in the Past for the next 3 years?

It is time to stretch beyond schools. Over these 3 glorious years, I have had the privilege of participating in many community and play based events. For example Playgroup WA open day, Library’s and even a school’s 75th anniversary celebration. The feedback every time is the same, grown ups love Play in the Past as much as the children do.

It is magic.

Grown ups get the dopamine hit of reminiscing about their childhood, reliving their youth and experiencing their past alongside their children. They share their memories as they teach about the item itself. It is peak inter-generational play joy! The world needs more of it.

So, I am embarking on a journey into the sensory play world. Think mobile museums and pop up play experiences. Throughout the summer months I will blend the best bits of my school based incursions in the bog outdoors. Parents, grandparents and carers will get to explore their past WITH their children. Not sit passively by as their children explore. It is about connection. It is about play that bridges generations. It is about those special moments that can only happen when playing in the past.

I am currently hunting for venues, locking in dates and of course op shopping up a storm.

What to expect:

Nature placed venues

Vintage items to explore

Intergenerational Play

Loose parts play

Cubby building

Gold panning

Convict Construction - the works!

Let me know if this floats your boat and want in!
