History Helper: ANZAC Day Activities

ANZAC Day Activities

Save these hands-on tips for after the break.

Explore the ways we commemorate ANZAC Day through a range of play based activities and activations.

  • Sensory Tray Recipe: offer oats, desiccated coconut and shakers for golden syrup, in a tough tray and watch the magic happen.

  • Big Blocks and loose parts: represent symbols of ANZAC Day using big blocks and loose parts. For example, build a cenotaph, wreath or medal. Offer sticky notes for students to label their creations.

  • Rosemary Playdough: Follow a playdough recipe with your students and add rosemary, explaining that rosemary is a symbol of remembrance.

  • Remembrance Stones: Using story stones, students choose one symbol of ANZAC Day and draw it on the stone. Paint the stone with mod podge (this part may be an adult activity or not!) and then add it to your sensory trays to use in your learning.

The possibilities are endless.

Let me know which activities you will use, adapt or explore to bring History to life in your classroom.
